Wisdom Tooth Removal and Oral Surgery
Wisdom teeth, or third molars, usually erupt between the ages of 17 and 21. Not everyone has them. Having a ‘full jaw’ X-ray (known as an OPG) taken will identify if and how many wisdom teeth you have. We have the facilities here at Wingewarra Dental to take OPG X-rays.
My wisdom teeth are growing sideways. What does this mean?
Wisdom teeth that do not come up straight through the gum are what is called ‘impacted’ wisdom teeth.
Several common problems can arise from this, such as infection of the gum around the tooth, decay, or damage to the tooth in front.
Rare complications are cysts that can grow around the impacted tooth.
When wisdom teeth are impacted it is best to have them removed. This can sometimes be a surgical procedure.
At Wingewarra Dental we are able to remove your wisdom teeth. This can be performed in the dental chair. For those that are a little nervous, we offer nitrous sedation (“happy gas”) or treatment under a general anaesthetic at the hospital.
