Ask The Dentist
How often should I visit the dentist?
The frequency of your visits will vary depending on your individual needs. We generally recommend a check-up and clean every 12 months to maintain an optimal level of oral health.
What causes bleeding gums?
Bleeding gums can be a sign of serious conditions like gingivitis or periodontal disease. Symptoms such as swollen or bleeding gums are warning signs that our bodies give us so that we can take action to prevent the problem from progressing beyond control. If your gums bleed when you brush or floss your teeth please call us as soon as possible and we will find a solution for you.
What causes toothaches?
Toothaches are usually caused by dental problems, such as cavities, cracked teeth, an exposed tooth root, or gum disease. If you are experiencing tooth pain, we urge you to not take it lightly. We recommend that you book an appointment with us as soon as possible so we can treat the problem and stop your pain.
What will be covered in a check-up appointment?
Usually when you visit the dentist for your check up you will be seen by one of our friendly dentists who will conduct an initial oral exam of your gums and teeth, document any changes in your overall oral health, clean and polish your teeth and talk to you about looking after for your teeth and gums. Our dentists will be happy to answer any questions you may have about your dental hygiene.
When should my children have their first check-up?
We recommend the first dental visit from 2 years old when most children will have all of their primary (“baby”) teeth. Starting visits early helps children become familiar with the dental environment and greatly reduces anxiety that can be associated with the dentist.
Why are regular check-ups important?
Regular visits to the dentist are very important. They allow the dentist the opportunity to find early signs of disease so any problems can be treated before they become serious. You may be unaware that you have a problem until you feel pain so regular check ups should resolve your issues before this occurs.
Why so I need to have an X-ray?
X-rays enable the dentist to spot hidden problems such as beneath fillings or between teeth. Identifying problems early makes treatment easier and cheaper.
